Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay

Sir Edmund Hillary was one of the great mountaineers and explorers of the 20th century. In 1953 the New Zealander, accompanied by a Sherpa named Tenzing Norgay, was the first person to climb to the summit of Mount Everest and return safely.

During the 1950's and 1960's Hillary conducted several expeditions in search of the yeti only to come up empty-handed and conclude the creature was a local myth.
